How do you write about something that doesn’t exist?
Race isn’t real, but the racism is. Detectable mostly only by spirits inhabiting a brown skin bag, I went on a mission to speak to 5 selected creatives of colour with studios at the Treehouse NDSM co-working community. In collaboration with photographer Benny van der Plank we created poetic portraits of each interviewee.
Each creative represents themselves as they’ve related to race, their craft and one of the 5 fundamental elements - Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Aether. One interview released each week - this week, Merlyn from BraidsbyMer grounding us with Earth energy.
